BOTOX® & Dermal Fillers | Serving Rancho Mirage & Palm Springs, CA
Rejuvenate your skin with BOTOX® and dermal fillers at our Rancho Mirage office where our expert staff delivers beautiful, natural-looking results. Dermal fillers are a non-invasive treatment option that can plump thin lips, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, soften creases in the face and even improve the appearance of deep scars. These fillers are injected directly into the area needing attention.
These “BOTOX® specials” offer many of the same benefits as a traditional facelift without the recovery time or cost. It is for this reason that they are sometimes called “liquid facelifts.” They are especially effective at plumping up areas of the face and for wrinkle removal.
Botox & Other Injectable Fillers Procedures
Injectable fillers are one of the most straightforward cosmetic surgery procedures available. They can be performed on an outpatient basis and take as little as 15 minutes from start to finish.
While “collagen fillers” is a common phrase when referring to dermal fillers, there are many other types of dermal fillers today. You and Dr. Lombardo will discuss your desired results and select the right filler for the job. Choices include:
- Bellafill® “The 5 Year Filler” injections
- JUVÉDERM® injections
- Restylane® injections
- Sculptra® injections
- BOTOX® injections
- Calcium hydroxylapatite injections
- JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC filler
- JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC
- Revanesse Versa
Once you’ve settled on a dermal filler, the surgeon will map out where the injections will go using a marking pen on your face. The area will be cleaned and a topical numbing cream will be used to numb the area. The injections take just seconds to perform and multiple sites can be injected at the same appointment.
Ideal Candidates for Dermal Fillers
Ideal candidates for injectable fillers are realistic. Dermal fillers do not stop the aging process, but they can rejuvenate your looks. If you decide to have Botox, or another type of injectable filler, you must go into it knowing that the results are not permanent. You will need to repeat the process occasionally in order to maintain the look you want.
- Are looking for a short-term solution to delay having a surgical facelift
- Want to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, lips, and forehead
- Want to give their face a boost and attain a more youthful, fresh look
Dermal Fillers Cost and Recovery
Costs for dermal fillers vary depending on the individualized cosmetic plan Dr. Lombardo recommends for you. Recovery time is minimal and many people do not even have to adjust their daily lives to receive dermal fillers. After the injections have been placed, the marks will be washed away and you will be given an ice pack to lightly apply to the area. It is important not to put any pressure on the injection spot or else the filler may move. The area may be sore or swollen for a few days and you may experience some bruising. You can wear make-up right away to cover this up.

What is BOTOX?
BOTOX® is made from the botulinum toxin type A. Those bacteria are the same bacteria that cause botulism, but back in the 1950s scientists discovered that when the botulinum toxin was injected in very miniscule amounts into a muscle it would temporarily stop that muscle from contracting.
Initially, the new branded product, BOTOX®, was approved by the FDA and used to stop involuntary eyelid spasms. But in 2002, the FDA approved BOTOX® to treat wrinkles and lines on the upper third of the face. The rock star of the aesthetic world was born. Every year since then, BOTOX® injections have been the most popular cosmetic procedure performed worldwide.
How does BOTOX work?
As mentioned above, BOTOX® works by temporarily stopping a muscle from contracting. When injected into a muscle, BOTOX® blocks the nerve messages sent from the brain to muscle. The muscle never receives the message to contract the muscle, so the muscle stays relaxed.
There are two types of wrinkles: dynamic wrinkles, which are formed by muscle contractions under the skin; and static wrinkles, which are caused by volume loss and gravity or by sleeping on your side, squishing the skin to fold onto itself. BOTOX® only works on dynamic wrinkles. These are wrinkles found on the upper third of the face — crow’s feet, forehead furrows, and the 11s between the brows. They form when we make expressions such as frowning. Go ahead and make a frown or squint, and you’ll feel the muscles on your forehead and around your eyes engage. When BOTOX® is injected into the muscle creating crow’s feet, for instance, it blocks the nerve message so the underlying muscle that forms the wrinkle never gets the message to contract so the crow’s feet are erased. So, your Mom was right when she said “don’t make that face or it’ll stay that way”!
How long does the treatment last?
BOTOX® temporarily paralyzes the muscle it is injected into for about four months. At that point, the BOTOX® loses its effect and the muscle will begin to contract again, reforming the wrinkle on the surface skin. To maintain your results, another BOTOX® appointment with Dr. Lombardo is in order.
How long does it take to start seeing results?
Unlike dermal fillers, which instantly provide volume and push up a wrinkle from beneath, BOTOX® takes a little time to relax the muscle and stop the contractions. This usually takes from 3-5 days to fully work its magic on the muscle. The wrinkles, which are now NOT being emphasized by the muscle moving, will relax in another few days.
Do the injections hurt?
Dr. Lombardo injects BOTOX® with a very tiny needle. Most of our patients have no trouble tolerating these injections, equating them to a pinprick. However, if you would like we can apply topical numbing cream or ice prior to your BOTOX® injections.
How is BOTOX different than dermal fillers?
People lump BOTOX® in with dermal fillers, but they work in completely different ways. As mentioned above, BOTOX® works by temporarily paralyzing muscles that form wrinkles on the skin above when they contract. These wrinkles, such as crow’s feet and the 11s between the brows, are called dynamic wrinkles and form on the upper third of the face. Dermal fillers have no effect on the dynamic movement.
Dermal fillers “fill” wrinkles or areas with volume loss, such as sunken cheeks. They are injected directly below the wrinkle, crease, or area with volume loss and the filler immediately adds volume and pushes the skin back upwards. These wrinkles are not caused by muscle contractions, but are due to volume loss, sun damage, collagen loss, and other environmental factors and personal habits. These are known as static wrinkles. Dermal fillers erase static wrinkles. BOTOX® has no effect on static wrinkles.
Actual Patient Review:
Are there any side effects?
BOTOX® has been injected millions of time across the world with minimal side effects. The main side effects are possible swelling and slight redness around the injection sites. This usually lasts just a day or two.
The main possible side effect has to do with the skill of the injector. If BOTOX® is injected into the wrong muscle, it can create unwanted issues such as a droopy eyelid. That’s where the expertise and training of Dr. Lombardo is paramount. She has extensive training in the use of BOTOX® and in facial anatomy. This ensures Botox will deliver the wrinkle erasing results you seek.
One other thing about BOTOX® is that after your injections you must not rub the injection sites for the first 24 hours. If you do rub these areas, it can make the BOTOX® migrate to an unwanted muscle and create issues such as a droopy eyelid. Also, no vigorous exercise for several hours after the injection: increased heart rate or blood pressure can take the medication away from where it is placed and the effect will not be as strong as intended or decreasing the longevity of the action of BOTOX®.
Do men get BOTOX injections?
Who says women are the only ones who develop crow’s feet, the 11s between the brows, or forehead lines? More and more men are having BOTOX® injections for the same reason women do — because BOTOX®erases these lines and wrinkles and makes the person look younger and more alive. Men find that BOTOX® helps them compete with younger counterparts in the office. And, who doesn’t want to look great?
