BOTOX®/Dysport® in Palm Springs & Palm Desert, CA

BOTOX Palm Springs CA

Rejuvenate your skin with BOTOX®/Dysport® at our Yucca Valley office where our expert staff delivers beautiful, natural-looking results. BOTOX® injections are a non-invasive treatment option that can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

These “BOTOX® specials” offer many of the same benefits as a traditional facelift without the recovery time or cost. It is for this reason that they are sometimes called “liquid facelifts.” They are especially effective at plumping up areas of the face and for wrinkle removal. How Long Does BOTOX® Treatment Take?

BOTOX® is one of the most straightforward cosmetic surgery procedures available. They can be performed on an outpatient basis and take as little as 15 minutes from start to finish.

BOTOX®, Dysport® & Other Injectable Fillers Procedures

While “collagen fillers” is a common phrase when referring to dermal fillers, there are many other types of dermal fillers today. You and Dr. Lombardo will discuss your desired results and select the right filler for the job. Choices include:

What Is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is made from the botulinum toxin type A. Those bacteria are the same bacteria that cause botulism, but back in the 1950s scientists discovered that when the botulinum toxin was injected in very minuscule amounts into a muscle it would temporarily stop that muscle from contracting.

Is BOTOX® FDA Approved?

Initially, the new branded product, BOTOX®, was approved by the FDA and used to stop involuntary eyelid spasms. But in 2002, the FDA approved BOTOX® to treat wrinkles and lines on the upper third of the face. The rock star of the aesthetic world was born. Every year since then, BOTOX® injections have been the most popular cosmetic procedure performed worldwide.

What Is Dysport®?

Dysport is made from a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum; it is the same neurotoxin used in BOTOX Cosmetic.

How Does BOTOX®/Dysport® Work?

Dysport Palm Springs CA

As mentioned above, BOTOX®/Dysport® works by temporarily stopping a muscle from contracting. When injected into a muscle, BOTOX®/Dysport® blocks the nerve messages sent from the muscle to the brain. The brain never receives the message to contract the muscle, so the muscle stays relaxed.

How Is BOTOX®/Dysport® Administered?

The surgeon will map out where the injections will go using a marking pen on your face. The area will be cleaned and a topical numbing cream will be used to numb the area. The injections take just seconds to perform and multiple sites can be injected at the same appointment.

What Types Of Wrinkles Can BOTOX®/Dysport® Remove?

There are two types of wrinkles: dynamic wrinkles, which are formed by muscle contractions under the skin; and static wrinkles, which are on display at all times. BOTOX®/Dysport® only works on dynamic wrinkles. These are wrinkles found on the upper third of the face — crow’s feet, forehead furrows, and the 11s between the brows. They form when we make expressions such as frowning. Go ahead and make a frown or squint, and you’ll feel the muscles on your forehead and around your eyes engage. When BOTOX®/Dysport® is injected into the muscle creating crow’s feet, for instance, it blocks the nerve message to the underlying muscle that forms the wrinkle never gets the message to contract so the crow’s feet are erased.

What Issues Does BOTOX®/Dysport® Address?

BOTOX®/Dysport® only works on static wrinkles caused by muscle contractions under the skin. These occur on the upper third of the face, the expressive area. BOTOX works on crow’s feet at the outside of the eyes, the 11s (frown lines) between your eyebrows, and on forehead lines.

BOTOX®/Dysport® doesn’t work on static wrinkles, such as smile lines, on the lower face. By the same token, dermal fillers don’t have any effect on dynamic wrinkles, such as crow’s feet, on the upper third of the face.

How Long Does BOTOX®/Dysport® Last?

BOTOX®/Dysport® temporarily paralyzes the muscle it is injected into for about four months. At that point, the body absorbs the now-inert BOTOX® and the muscle will begin to contract again, reforming the wrinkle on the surface skin. To maintain your results, another BOTOX®/Dysport® appointment with Dr. Lombardo is in order.

How Long Does It Take BOTOX®/Dysport® To Begin Working?

Unlike dermal fillers, which instantly provide volume and push up a wrinkle from beneath, BOTOX®/Dysport® takes a little time to relax the muscle and stop the contractions. This usually takes from 3-5 days to fully work its magic.

Do BOTOX®/Dysport® Injections Hurt?

Dr. Lombardo injects BOTOX®/Dysport®with a very tiny needle. Most of our patients have no trouble tolerating these injections, equating them to a pinprick. However, if you would like we can apply topical numbing cream or ice prior to your BOTOX®/Dysport® injections.

Do I Need More Than A Single BOTOX®/Dysport® Session?

BOTOX®/Dysport® injections only take a few minutes and they only require a single injection session. This will erase wrinkles on the upper third of the face for around four months.

How Is BOTOX®/Dysport® Different Than Dermal Fillers?

People lump BOTOX®/Dysport® in with dermal fillers, but they work in completely different ways. As mentioned above, BOTOX®/Dysport® works by temporarily paralyzing muscles that form wrinkles on the skin above when they contract. These wrinkles, such as crow’s feet and the 11s between the brows, are called dynamic wrinkles and form on the upper third of the face. Dermal fillers have no effect on dynamic wrinkles.

Dermal fillers “fill” wrinkles or areas with volume loss, such as sunken cheeks. They are injected directly below the wrinkle, crease, or area with volume loss and the filler immediately adds volume and pushes the skin back upwards. These wrinkles are not caused by muscle contractions but are due to sun damage, collagen loss, and other environmental factors and personal habits. These are known as static wrinkles. Dermal fillers erase static wrinkles. BOTOX®/Dysport® has no effect on static wrinkles.

What Are The Side Effects Of BOTOX®/Dysport®?

BOTOX®/Dysport® has been injected millions of times across the world with minimal side effects. The main side effects are possible swelling and a slight redness around the injection sites. This usually lasts just a day or two.

The main possible side effect has to do with the skill of the injector. If BOTOX®/Dysport® is injected into the wrong muscle, it can create unwanted issues such as a droopy eyelid. That’s where the expertise and training of Dr. Lombardo are paramount. She has extensive training in the use of BOTOX®/Dysport® and in facial anatomy. This ensures BOTOX®/Dysport® will deliver the wrinkle erasing results you seek.

One other thing about BOTOX®/Dysport® is that after your injections you must not rub the injection sites for the first 24 hours. If you do rub these areas, it can make the BOTOX®/Dysport® migrate to an unwanted muscle and create issues such as a droopy eyelid.

Do Men Get BOTOX®/Dysport® Injections?

Who says women are the only ones who develop crow’s feet, the 11s between the brows, or forehead lines? More and more men are having BOTOX®/Dysport® injections for the same reason women do — because BOTOX®/Dysport®erases these lines and wrinkles and makes the person look younger and more alive. Men find that BOTOX®/Dysport® helps them compete with younger counterparts in the office.
